"Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house." Proverbs 24:27 (NLV)
The Butterfield Memorial Foundation has developed seminars and workshops that are designed to provide Christian non-profit organizations with a better understanding of sound best practices of non-profit management. Participation in these educational opportunities will expand the organization’s capacity and potential for funding opportunities as well as long term health and sustainability.
Topics are covered extensively and range from 2-hour sessions in a large group setting to one- day group seminars attended by executive directors and board members of selected organizations. In some situations, Foundation staff members conduct one-on-one follow up with each non-profit to assist with developing a plan to facilitate the implementation of the topic principles as is suitable for each organization.
While some of the educational opportunities are offered to all interested community organizations, some programs are awarded to organizations that are selected through a competitive application process. Watch our home page for announcements about programs and opportunities for which you might apply.
Topics regularly addressed include:
- Governance – legal responsibility of board members, components of strong bylaws, roles of the board and executive director, policies and procedures for effective operations and board structure, recruitment and training.
- Non-Profit Finance Structure – transparent financial accountability, compliance with IRS rules, completion of the 990 Form, effective financial systems, budget development, internal controls and financial reporting methods.
